Safe Sport

Safe Sport is an environment where athletes can train and compete in healthy and supportive surroundings; an environment which is respectful, equitable, and free from all forms of harassment and abuse.

CODA Safe Sport Guiding Principles

CODA, like Sail Canada, is committed to providing a healthy and positive environment free from abuse to all of our members and volunteers.

Coaches contracted by CODA who have contact or authority with athletes associated with any CODA sponsored event or international team are required to complete SafeSport training and background checks as per Sail Canada guidelines.

In addition, CODA strongly recommends the following individuals complete SafeSport training:

  • Event Chairs for CODA events
  • Team Leads and Chaperones for International Teams
  • Support persons as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing

The training is free for everyone and can be completed at your own pace: Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) Safe Sport Module – Please report completion to Sail Canada via [email protected]

With respect to team travel as well the Rule of Two & Open and Observable Environments, Sail Canada has created a Safe Sport Package which includes guides, policies, and templates designed to provide resources and help our sailing community feel equipped to create and maintain a safe sporting environment for all involved in our sport.
